FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 7 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team obtains its seventh win in a row against No. 16 Flagler on Saturday, March 19 at the NSU Tennis Complex. Head Coach Stephen Scram comes to an agreement with No. 6 University of West Florida to cancel Sunday's battle due to inclement weather.
Although singles matches were interrupted by inclement weather, the Sharks were able to maintain their winning momentum versus a skillful Flagler Saints team. The NSU Sharks have increased their streak and are now 7-1 in their 2016 overall record.
Doubles matches ended in favor of the Sharks, as they claimed two of three team points. The Sharks No. 1 duo
Petra Jurova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and
Sabrina Kierberg (Sr., Munich, Germany) won by a mark of 8-6. The No. 2 combo
Klaudia Boczova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and
Carlee Rizzolo (Sr., Livingston, N.J.) gave the Sharks the second point of the day by winning with a score of 8-5.
The Sharks extended their lead in singles with Boczovia's 6-1, 6-0 victory. Breifly after the rest of the matches were interrupted due to rain falling on the courts and making it difficult to continue. After all courts were finally cleared the Sharks continued to dominate, winning four of the remaining five singles matches. Kierberg won the No. 2 singles with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Jurova has similar success in the No. 3 singles match winning 6-3 and 7-6 (3).
Nastassia Rubel (Jr., Minsk, Belarus) obtained her seventh overall win with the Sharks by defeating Flagler in the No. 4 singles by a mark of 6-4, 6-3. Senior Shark
Irina Constantinide (Sr., Galati, Romania) gave the teams last point by taking the No. 6 singles in a close match that concluded 7-6 (3), 7-5.
NSU Women's tennis head coach Stephen Scram shared his thoughts about Flagler Saints and his teams performance by saying, "Great match today and the team defeated a very good Flagler team. Our team stayed positive and fought to the end."
The next scheduled match for the Sharks is No. 12 NYIT at home on Monday, March 21.
