Baseball Launches Three Home Runs In Win Over Barry

Cintron goes deep twice and Zardon once.

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University baseball team (19-11, 9-4 SSC) powered past the Barry University Buccaneers (18-13, 2-5 SSC) on Friday night, defeating the their South Florida counterparts by a score of 8-3. Alex Mateo earned his fifth win, allowing just two earned runs across seven innings of work. Jancarlos Cintron hit two home runs, while going 4-for-5 and Daniel Zardon hit his ninth big fly of the year.
 
Cintron got the scoring started for the Sharks, hitting his first home run of the night in the top of the third inning, a solo shot over the left field fence. Not to be outdone, Zardon followed with a solo home run of his own, sending a 1-0 fastball over the hitter's eye in centerfield to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
 
NSU added their third run of the game in the in top of the fourth inning, as Dylan Woods scored on one of three costly wild pitches from the Barry starting pitcher. The same would happen in the fifth, as Cintron scored on a wild pitch, followed by Sebastian Diaz who scored on an error by the Barry shortstop. With the score 5-0, the Sharks would push two more runs across in the fifth inning with Zardon and Kevin Suarez scoring on separate wild pitches.
 
The Sharks continued to pour it on in the sixth, as Cintron smashed his second home run and fourth hit of the day over the left field wall, making the score 8-0.
 
Barry would score one run in the bottom of the six and two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was too little, too late as Ronald Patella shut the door, tossing two innings of scoreless relief.
