WINTER PARK, Fla. – No. 7 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team (14-1, 6-0 SSC) delivered their 14th consecutive victory of the 2016 regular season and sixth in the Sunshine State Conference on Sunday, April 10 over No. 34 Rollins (9-6, 1-3 SSC) at the Bert W. Martin Tennis Complex in Winter Park, Florida.
The Sharks went up 3-0 after doubles matches to obtain a partial lead over the Tars. The No. 1 couple
Petra Jurova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and
Sabrina Kierberg (Sr., Munich, Germany) concluded 8-3.
Irina Constantinide (Sr., Galati, Romania) paired up with
Linda Kornienko (Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.) in No. 2 doubles and obtained an 8-4 win.
Nastassia Rubel (Jr., Minsk, Belarus) and
Carlee Rizzolo (Sr., Livingston, N.J.) won the No. 3 doubles 8-2.
Moving into singles, Kierberg redeemed herself in the No. 1 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Jurova completed her 14th consecutive win in singles for the Sharks with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 mark. Rubel had a tougher time defeating the Tars in the No. 3 singles, but in the end came triumphant with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 score. Rizzolo seemed to also have a tough first set in the No. 4 singles, but concluded the match very strong 7-5, 6-0.
In 2016 the Sharks have faced some tough competition throughout, but have been able to stay on the top as they strive for the best. NSU will have to complete the unfinished battle with Embry-Riddle in Daytona, Florida on Tuesday, April 12 at 3:30 p.m. The real test will come in the last two games of the regular season at home against No. 3 Saint Leo on Sunday, April 17 and No. 2 Barry on Thursday, April 21.
