FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 7 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis (15-2, 6-1 SSC) saw their second loss of the season to No. 3 Saint Leo (17-1, 7-0 SSC) on Sunday, while Sharks'
Klaudia Boczova captured a singles victory over No. 2 contender Natalia Siedliska.
The Lions secured a 6-3 win over the Sharks after first taking the lead by putting up a 2-1 doubles mark. The No. 2 pair of
Petra Jurova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and
Irina Constantinide (Sr., Galati, Romania) saw NSU's doubles victory with an 8-5 win over Isabella Robbiani and Coralie Pesenti. Both the No. 1 and No. 3 teams lost 8-4 to their respective opponents.
The Sharks had two wins in singles with the first coming from No. 6 Constantinide over Pesenti with sets of 6-4 and 6-3. Boczova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia) then followed suit, winning 6-4, 6-0 over Siedliska, the second-ranked player in NCAA Division II. Boczova had secured the No. 3 spot in the national rankings and now looks to advance with this victory.
NSU saw losses at the No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 spots in singles. Jurova's match ended the day as the senior put up a fight at No. 3 winning the second set 6-2 but eventually falling to Beugre-Guyot with additional sets of 6-2 and 6-4 in favor of Saint Leo.
The season is not over yet as tennis looks toward its match against Sunshine State Conference opponent No. 2 Barry on Thursday, April 21. With a win, the Sharks could clinch the two-seed for the upcoming conference championship, which in turn would get them a bye for the first round. Next week's match will begin at 2:30 p.m. at the NSU Tennis Complex at Rolling Hills.
