FORT LAUDERDLAE, Fla. – No. 7 Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team (11-1, 3-0 SSC) closed an exciting Senior Day ceremony with a Sunshine State Conference victory over University of Tampa (6-7, 0-5 SSC) on Sunday, April 3 at the NSU Tennis Complex in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Petra Jurova (Sr., Bratislava, Slovakia),
Linda Kornienko (Sr., Fort Myers, Fla.),
Iryna Serdyuk (Sr., Boca Raton, Fla.),
Sabrina Kierberg (Sr., Munich, Germany),
Carlee Rizzolo (Sr., Livingston, N.J.) and
Irina Constantinide (Sr., Galati, Romania) were individually introduced and commended prior to the official matches for their hard work and dedication as NSU Sharks.
Immediately after the ceremony the Sharks got back into game mode and defeated the Spartans in all doubles matches.
Klaudia Boczova (Jr., Bratislava, Slovakia) and Kierberg took charge of the No. 1 singles with an 8-2 victory. Rizzolo and Kornienko grab their first doubles win together of 2016 with a mark of 8-3. Jurova partnered up with
Nastassia Rubel (Jr., Minsk, Belarus) for the Sharks with a neat 8-1 mark.
The Sharks stayed dominant in the singles competitions by winning five of six matches. Boczova who is ranked No. 3 in the nation for Division II, according to ITA's latest ranking update, defeated her No. 1 singles opponent 6-0, 6-1. Kierberg was also close to having a perfect score in the No. 2 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Jurova continued her individual winning streak with also a 6-1, 6-0 mark in No. 3 singles. Rizzolo was in charge of snatching the Shark's win in the No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-0 score. The last team's point happened in the fourth court as the Sharks obtained a 6-2, 6-0 win though Junior Shark Rubel.
An 8-1 overall win over the University of Tampa Spartans extended the Sharks win streak to eleven consecutive games. The Sharks look ahead to prepare for their next match up in Boca Raton, Florida on Tuesday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. against the No. 5 team in the nation, the Lynn Knights.
