FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team is ready to take on the most expected game of the post season in the NCAA Division II South Region first round against No. 8 University of West Florida on Monday, May 9 at the neutral site of top seeded No. 2 Saint Leo University.

The Sharks (15-4) were unable to face the No. 8 UWF Argonauts (22-5) during the regular season due to inconvenient weather conditions, which led to the cancelation of the match originally scheduled for March 20 at a neutral site in Winter Park, Fla. On Monday the Sharks and the Argonauts will have the chance to match up and decide who will advance on to the second round of the NCAA Division II South Region Tournament. The contention will take place at 10 a.m. at the Saint Leo Tennis Center in Saint Leo, Fla.

NSU is coming to the first round of the tournament as the number four seed after three defeats against the top teams in the Sunshine State Conference, teams who are also qualified for the regional championships. The Sharks were coming from a 15 game winning streak against top nationally ranked opponents and some conference members, until they faced the Saint Leo Lions and the Barry Buccaneers. Their overall great performance led the Sharks to advance to the Sunshine State Conference semifinals as the number two seed, but the misfortune followed as the team fell 5-1 against the 2016 SSC Champions Lynn Knights.

The Sharks are focused on redeeming themselves against the Argonauts and pursuing the NCAA National qualifiers. UWF is coming to the South Regional Championships as a number five seed and most recently claimed the Gulf South Conference Championship against Valdosta State with a 5-1 score. Some of their regular season misfortunes include defeats against SSC members Lynn University and Saint Leo University. The winner between the Sharks and the Argonauts on Monday morning will have to face Saint Leo Lions (20-2) on Tuesday and play for revenge of regular season play.

On the other half of the bracket Barry University (17-3) will encounter Benedict (18-5) for a chance to advance into the second round of the NCAA DII South Region tournament. The top team of the matchup will take on the Lynn Knights on Sunday, May 8 at Lynn University where both rounds of the bracket will be hosted.
