FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team will travel in-conference again on Saturday, for a weekend matchup in Lakeland, Fla. against the Florida Southern Moccasins.
Florida Southern (12-6, 8-2 SSC) is currently on a two-game losing streak, as SSC provisional member Embry-Riddle and Rollins defeated the Mocs this past week. Sitting in the No. 2 spot in the league, a win over the Mocs would move the No. 4 Sharks (12-7, 8-3 SSC) up in the standings after grabbing a mid-week win over No. 3 Tampa.
NSU utilized a strong offensive start on Wednesday evening, completing the season sweep of Tampa with a 66-56 victory.
Octavia Wilson led the team in scoring for the second game in a row, with career-highs of 24 points and six three-pointers.
Samantha Logan tied her career-high of 18 points and also set a new one with six three-pointers, in addition to seven rebounds for the SSC leader.
Amanda Tivenius joined them in double figures, with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting, while also bringing down seven boards. The junior forward has shot 76.7 from the field in the last five games, averaging 10.2 points.
Megan Piggott continues to lead the Sharks in scoring with an average 11.3 points. The aforementioned SSC rebound-leader, Logan, sits at the top of the conference with an average 9.0 boards per game, including 6.7 on the defensive side.
The Mocs are led by Camille Giardina, who averages a stifling 14.3 points per game on 47.8 percent shooting from the field and 47.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Giardina is joined by three other teammates in the double-digit average in Anja Fuchs-Robetin (12.7), Jensen Blassage (10.8) and Gianna Vastola (10.7). Fuchs-Robetin is also the team's rebound leader, as she pulls down on average 6.6 boards.
The two teams met earlier this month in the Rick Case Arena, and the Mocs returned home with a 70-63 win over the Sharks.
Maria Bardeeva, who came off the bench, and Piggott shared in a team-leading 15 points each; for Bardeeva, it marked a new career-high on a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 at the line. They were joined by Tivenius, who was also 6-of-6 from the field, and Logan, who was a rebound short of a double-double.
