NSU Heads To Daytona Beach to Face SSC-Provisional Member ERAU

Sharks fell to the Eagles earlier this season, 57-53.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The NSU women's basketball team will take its second to last road trip this Wednesday, travelling to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

In its most recent time out, the Sharks (14-10, 10-6 SSC) fell to the SSC top-ranked Eckerd Tritons, 66-46. Maria Bardeeva came off the bench to share in the team lead of 11 points with Amanda Tivenius, the only two Sharks to finish in double digits. Bardeeva also added eight rebounds to lead the team, while Christen Prasse and Samantha Logan were not far behind at seven each. Prasse also had a team-high four assists.

The two team met in December, where ERAU (14-8) grabbed a 57-53 win over the host Sharks. Prasse led the team with 14 points, while Megan Piggott scored 11, her fifth straight game in double digits. Katie Barnard returned after missing four games due to injury and recorded two points, two rebounds, a block and a steal in 23 minutes in a starting role. Cheray Saunders collected six steals to match the team's single-game high this season.

On the other side, Sabrina Whiting showed her affinity for playing in the Rick Case Arena once again as she followed up last season's 27-point performance with a season-high 25 points. Mercedes Jorge and Tara Fields posted solid all-around performances as Jorge tallied nine points, 10 rebounds and six assists, while Fields contributed nine points, eight boards and three blocks. Lauren Ellenberger was the only other Eagle player to score in double figures, finishing with 10.

The Eagles are currently 10-5 against SSC opponents after falling to Florida Southern this past Saturday, 69-40. The Eagles were just 30.4 percent (17-of-56) from the field on the way to their second-lowest scoring output of the year. Tara Fields was the only Eagle player in double figures with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Whiting leads the Blue and Gold in scoring, tallying 13.0 points per game. Ellenberger and Fields are ERAU's next biggest offensive threats, each with a 9.8 points per game average.
