HOW IT HAPPENED

DOUBLES:
  • Florida Tech jumped out to an early lead after Alahna Reto and Caroline Walter defeated Alex Yeardley and Ivana Djordjevic, 8-2 at No. 3.
  • The Sharks responded shortly after when Daniela Obando and Andrea Ivanovic dominated Paloma Vela and Kayla Hergott, 8-2 at No. 1
  • The Panthers would take a 2-1 advantage, though, with an 8-5 win at No. 2. Lowrey and Ana Navas fought to tie the match at 5-5, but would see Erin Egoroff and Marianna Castaneiras take the final three points.
SINGLES
  • Just like doubles, the singles matches played as back-and-forth affairs. Navas struck first in singles for the Sharks, tying the match at 2-2 following a 6-0, 6-1 win over Maria Escude in the top-flight.
  • Lauren Stuckey would regain the lead for the Panthers with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Eva Agasse at No. 6
  • In No. 3 singles, Obando would knot the match back at 3-3 after defeating Vela, 6-2, 6-0.
  • Reto would once again put the Panthers back in front, 4-3, with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 over Ivanovic.
  • Lowrey kept her record unblemished, picking up revenge from her defeat against Castaneiras a season ago by winning 6-3, 6-2 at No.5.
  • With the match coming down to the wire, Yeardley rebounded after dropping the first set by taking set No. 2. However, the freshman was unable to hold off Egoroff (6-2, 4-6, 6-3), as Florida Tech defeated the Sharks for the first time since 2013.
