Sharks Earn Fifth Straight Bid to NCAA Tournament

NSU to collide with Montevallo this Friday at 2 p.m. ET

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Make it a perfect 5-for-5 for head coach John Constable, as he and his Nova Southeastern women's soccer team will be headed back to the NCAA Tournament for a fifth consecutive year after the 56-team field was officially announced Monday night. The Sharks landed the No. 5 seed in the South Region and will match up with fourth-seeded Montevallo in the opening round, held at Tom Shepard Field on the campus of Hinds Community College this Friday at 2 p.m. ET.

"I am proud of our student athletes," said Constable, whose team's 14 wins this season rank second-most in the program's history. "I am happy to see that a 14-3-2 season has been enough to qualify for the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The region was the toughest I've seen it this year, with many teams vastly improved. Making the postseason can never be taken for granted. We must not forget, it wasn't that long ago that our program was absent from both the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and NCAA tourney for consecutive years. However, it is important we give a good account of ourselves this year. This means playing to the best of our potential and winning games in the postseason."

NSU is joined by No. 3 seed Rollins and No. 6 seed Embry-Riddle as the three representatives from the Sunshine State Conference to earn bids into the postseason, while the aforementioned Falcons, along with fellow Gulf South Conference members in top-seeded Mississippi College and No. 2 seed Lee, round out the six-team region. Both Montevallo and Embry-Riddle collected automatic bids after winning their respective leagues this past weekend.

The winner of NSU/Montevallo will advance to face Mississippi College on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3 p.m. ET.  As the region's top two seeds, the Choctaws and Flames were awarded byes into the Round of 32.

Should the Sharks get past both Montevallo and Mississippi College, they'll then meet the winner that survives between Lee, Rollins and Embry-Riddle.

The South Region Championship will be played the following weekend at the site of the highest remaining seed from the region. The champions from both the South and Southeast regions will then collide in the Elite Eight. The Final Four is scheduled for Dec.12 before the national championship is played out on Dec. 14 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.
