TAMPA, Fla. – Taking in the fourth meet of the season and second away from home the Nova Southeastern track and field team knocked out three more new records in competition this weekend at the Bulls Invitational against a mixture of Division I and Division II competition.
FIELD EVENTS
- For the second consecutive meet, senior Kamaria Johnson moved ahead of her own shot put record, producing the top collegiate mark at the meet (third behind two unattached athletes) with a toss of 13.64m (44-09), adding another 1.5 inches to her record.
- Johnson also finished fourth in the discus with a new personal best of 39.90m (130-11) and second in the hammer throw, just short of her PR at 49.87m (163-07) – both events from Friday's competition.
- Freshman Timothy Young also reset the long jump school record for the second meet in a row, reaching 6.96m (22-10) on Friday for eighth overall and seventh among collegiate competition.
- Sophomore Zaheem Anderson went back and forth with Young, producing a personal-best 6.92m (22-08.5) mark to initially break the school record, going on to finish 10th.
- Freshman Kathryn Sleboda reached 33.18 m (108-10) on her fifth throw to finish fifth in the javelin with a new personal best.
- Finishing sixth in the women's pole vault, senior Brianna Law reached 3.35m (10-11.75).
- Freshman Carly Rothert was seventh in the high jump at 1.50 m (4-11).
RUNNING EVENTS
- Freshman Michael Parry produced a school record in the 800m, making a provisional NCAA qualification time of 1:51.69 and finishing second overall just .19 seconds behind USF's Yohance Haynes.
- In the same race, senior Costa Stathis finished fourth overall with a personal-best time of 1:53.11.
- Junior Ian Nieves finished third in the 400m hurdles, just over .38 seconds shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark with his career-best time at 53.805.
- Nieves also finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.59 seconds.
- Senior Eric Moate was second in the 100m, just .08 seconds behind USF's Maurice Nock.
- Moate also finished fourth in the 200m at 21.49 seconds.
- Freshman Charissa Bacon and senior Lisa Blackwood made consecutive NSU finishers at third and fourth in the 400m hurdles, coming in at 1:07.5 and 1:08.5, respectively.
- Freshman Carli Etrick and sophomore Michelle Bauer went back-to-back in the women's 5,000m at sixth and seventh, running 18:53.21 and 18:54.88, respectively. Etrick's finish was a new career best. In the men's 5,000m, freshman Daniel Meza ran a career-best time of 15:44.98 to finish seventh.
- Sophomore Kuepper Feehan and Bauer came in third and fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase, Feehan delivering NSU's top time this year at 12:05.38, ahead of Bauer's 12:16.75. Freshman Johann Bertram was fourth in the men's race at 10:40.65.
RELAY EVENTS
- The men's 4x100m relay squad of Nieves, Young, Anderson and Eric Moate reached a provisional NCAA time of 41.07 to finish second behind Rutgers' foursome, lopping .23 seconds off their top time this season.
- The men's 4x400m relay of Stathis, James Gamble, Parry, Juan Parra finished eighth at 3:26.20.
