Sharks Open Series Against Tars with 1-0 Victory

Suzuki tallies winning RBI-single after three scoreless innings

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Opening up its final series in the AD Griffin Sports Complex of 2019, the Nova Southeastern softball team earned a 1-0 shutout victory over the visiting Rollins Tars.  
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
BOTTOM 4TH | With two outs, Suka Van Gurp was inches away from a solo homer as her ball hit off the top half of the centerfield fence, good enough for a triple to put NSU in scoring position for the first time in the game. The next batter, Alex Suzuki, put NSU on the board, bringing Van Gurp home on an RBI-single to right field.


INSIDE THE STATS:
 
  • The Sharks were limited to two hits as Van Gurp and Suzuki were each 1-for-3.
 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
 
  • Mayte Lezcano tied her season-high of five assists in the win, making multiple key plays for the Sharks defense.
  • Tonight was Schmoll's eighth shutout of the season.
 
UP NEXT
 
The Sharks will conclude its three game series with the Tars tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. In between the two games, the team will honor its three seniors, Kayla Kight, Keeley Mayers and Suka Van Gurp.
