DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Battling through high headwinds and a multi-hour delay the Nova Southeastern men's and women's track and field teams both sit in third place after two days of competition on Friday at the Belt Championships on Embry-Riddle's Daytona Beach campus. At the end of the second day of action, the women's team has earned 65 points, while the women have 58.
RELAYS
RUNNING EVENTS
- Running in a heavy headwind, Nieves took the top seed in the 110m hurdles preliminary with a time of 14.84 seconds. He looks to defend the position in Saturday's final at 12:10 p.m..
- Already scheduled for Saturday as the top seed in the 100m, Moate led the 200m field after fighting through the wind to a 22.31 finish in the preliminary. The 200m final is slated for 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
- Sophomore Kuepper Feehan garnered the bronze medal in the 3,000m steeplechase, recording a career-best time of 11:37.59.
- Freshman Daniel Duffy also earned the bronze medal in the men's 3,000m steeplechase on a season-best 9:48.29.
- Freshman Michael Parry finished second in the 800m preliminary at 1:55.3 and will be joined by fourth-place senior Costa Stathis (1:56.19) in Saturday's 12:45 p.m. final.
- Rothert was the first of three qualifiers headed to Saturday's 100m hurdles final, finishing second in 15.62 despite the headwind. Joining Rothert on Saturday will be Kenyon (fourth, 16.48) and Bacon (sixth, 16.54) at 12:00 p.m.
MULTI-EVENTS
- Senior Christopher Horn earned the silver medal in the decathlon with 5,923 points after going third in the 110m hurdles (17.64), second in the discus (32.81m), fourth in the pole vault (3.90m), and third in the javelin (48.84m).
- In addition, the Sharks garnered more scores in the decathlon via fifth-place senior Kyle Forsythe (5,149 points) and eighth-place sophomore Nadiv Galindo (4,001 points).
- Senior Lisa Blackwood earned the bronze medal in the heptathlon, accruing 3,848 points after taking finishing second in the 800m (2:42.11), third in the long jump (5.12m) and third in the 200m (27.57).
- Freshman Katheryn Sleboda also finished eighth with 2,962 points.
FIELD EVENTS
- Recording her first triple jump of her career, Rothert earned the bronze medal in the final event of the late night at the triple jump, the freshman reaching 10.91m (35-9.5).
- Graduate student Shannon Davis reached a height of 2.90m (9-6.25) to finish fourth in the women's pole vault.
- Sophomore Justin Jackson led a group of three scoring Sharks in the men's triple jump late on Friday, reaching a career-best 14.06m (46-1.5) to finish fourth, ahead of freshman Cameron Greene (13.34m/43-9.5) and Anderson (13.21m/43-4.25), who went back-to-back at seventh and eighth.
- In the women's discus, freshman Marissa Reid finished fourth with a season-best 38.23m (125-5), ahead of senior Kamaria Johnson in seventh at 35.91m (117-10).
- Adding more points by both seniors, Horn (3.80m/12-5.5) and Forsythe (3.65m/11-11.75) finished fourth and fifth in the men's pole vault. In addition, freshman Jordan Curby and sophomore Nadiv Galindo tied for seventh at 3.35m to close out the scorers in the event.
- Freshman Spencer Ochko finished sixth in the men's discus on a season-long toss of 39.02m (128-0).
