FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Back on its home court for the first time since April, the Nova Southeastern tennis team will welcome three teams to Fort Lauderdale this weekend for the inaugural Shark Bite Invite, slated for Oct. 29-31.
Joining the Sharks for the three-day tournament will be a competitive bunch, including Keiser, Lynn and Tampa. Keiser enters the weekend in familiar territory, as the Seahawks are currently ranked No. 2 in the NAIA. Lynn is just a few years removed from sweeping both the 2019 Sunshine State Conference regular season and tournament titles before advancing all the way to the national final, while Tampa is a program fast on the rise thanks to the addition of a handful of Division I transfers.
The Sharks haven't been too shabby themselves thus far in the fall. With three tournaments under its belt, NSU opened the season by capturing the doubles championship at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional Championships. In early October, the Sharks then collected three singles titles across various flights at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational, and two weeks ago, had their doubles team of
Nika Kozar and
Zala Dovnik reach the semis at the ITA Cup. Even with the early success, competing on their home court will be a welcomed change.
"What a way to end our fall season," said NSU head coach
Doug Neagle. "We are hosting our inaugural Shark Bite Invite, and have three very strong teams coming in. It will be nice for our girls to compete on our home courts for a change! They have been working hard and are excited to play some competitive matches."
The Shark Bite Invite will consist of two flights in doubles and four in singles. Doubles play will kick-off the tournament Friday morning at 10 a.m.
