LAKELAND, Fla. – In a bittersweet final that featured both Nova Southeastern teams, it was
Natalie Espinal and
Chantal Nosievici besting
Zala Dovnik and
Nika Kozar, 8-7, to capture the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Regional doubles title on Monday. The championship marks the first of any kind for the program at the event.
"I am so proud of all four ladies," said NSU head coach
Doug Neagle. "It was probably 100 degrees on the courts each day and they had to play three times per day from Friday through Sunday to reach the finals on Monday. To see all Sharks playing in the doubles final, and one in the singles final, really shows our toughness. These ladies made history this weekend bringing home the ITA South Regional doubles championship, We learned a lot and are so pumped to keep working and getting better every day!"
NSU finished the tournament with an overall mark of 9-1 in doubles.
Singles Play
Kozar fell to top-seeded Deniz Khazan of Barry, 6-0, 6-0, in the singles final.
As a team, the Sharks posted a combined 12-4 tournament record in singles play.
