Sharks Start South Region Crossover with Sweep

HOOVER, AL. - Nova Southeastern began play at the South Region Crossover event on Friday evening, taking on the Lee Flames from the Finley Center. The Sharks swept Lee in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-20) to win their third consecutive match.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Lee began the match with an early lead, but the Sharks never let the Flames take full control of the opening set. NSU rallied for a 5-0 run off of four consecutive service aces from Preslee Brooksbank to lead 18-17. 

  • Jordan Chessar, after recording two of the final points in the set, helped guide the Sharks to a 1-0 match lead as NSU took the first set 25-22.  

  • Nova Southeastern opened the second set on a 3-0 run, taking advantage of two Lee errors.  

  • Two more errors by the Flames allowed NSU to extend its lead to 10-5.  

  • The Sharks won 7-of-8 points, receiving points from Chessar, Julia Bernardes, Olivia Aniol and Aleyna Kennel.  

  • Brooksbank added another service ace to her line, sealing the second set win for NSU, 25-17.  

  • The Sharks, facing a 12-8 deficit in the third set, used a 4-0 run to put the score at 13-12.  

  • Back-to-back service aces from Kate Mihacevich put NSU in front 15-14.  

  • Nova Southeastern sealed the third set win – and match sweep – following an error by Lee, taking the third set, 25-20.  

UPCOMING 

The Sharks continue South Region play on Saturday, October 15, taking on West Florida and Mississippi College from the Finley Center. First serve for the West Florida match is set for 1:15 p.m.
