Sharks Drop Pair of Matches to Close out Crossover Tournament

HOOVER, Al. - The Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team completed play at the South Region Crossover on Saturday evening, taking on both West Florida and Mississippi College from the Gulf South Conference. NSU fell in three-sets to West Florida (18-25, 11-25, 26-28) and four-sets to Mississippi College (26-24, 20-25, 21-25, 21-25).

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. West Florida) 

  • Grace Green began the match with a service ace, sparking a 3-0 run for Nova Southeastern to begin the match.  

  • West Florida later scored five unanswered points, taking a 9-7 lead over NSU.  

  • Two consecutive errors by West Florida allowed NSU an opportunity to tie the first set at 10-10. 

  • The Argonauts closed out the set 25-18 over Nova Southeastern, after rallying for a second 5-0 run.  

  • NSU made several miscues to open the second set, falling behind 13-5 against West Florida.  

  • Nova Southeastern dropped the second set 25-11.  

  • After trailing by as many as six points in the third set, the Sharks rallied back to tie West Florida at 15-15. 

  • UWF managed to score five consecutive points, taking a 20-15 lead, but Jordan Chessar sparked a 4-0 run to bring the score to 23-22.  

  • NSU forced extra points, but the Argonauts sealed the third set with a win at 28-26.  

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs. Mississippi College) 

  • Trailing 13-7, Nova Southeastern took advantage of three MC errors and a pair of kills from Julia Bernardes to cut the Mississippi College deficit to 13-12.  

  • The Sharks rallied late in the set, receiving points from Kate Mihacevich, Taylor Stockman, and Bruna Avila to win the first set, 26-24.  

  • Mississippi College began the second set with a 12-6 lead, but Nova Southeastern rallied back, as Mihacevich sparked a 7-1 run for NSU to put the score at 18-17 in favor of NSU.  

  • However, MC rallied to seal the set win (25-20), tying the match at 1-1.  

  • NSU used a 5-0 run in the third set, led by Olivia Aniol, Chessar and Avery Piatt, to lead 9-7.  

  • With the Sharks leading 18-16, Mississippi College took 7-of-8 points, claiming a 23-18 lead late in the third set.  

  • The Choctaws won the third set 25-21, taking a 2-1 set advantage.  

  • Aniol and Mihacevich began the fourth set with back-to-back kills, giving NSU a quick 2-0 lead.  

  • Following two consecutive errors by Mississippi College, the Sharks led 14-13.  

  • Trailing 19-16, Mihacevich recorded a pair of kills to tie the set at 20-20.  

  • MC sealed the set win and the match victory by winning the final four points.
