MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Sunshine State Conference announced its 2022 baseball postseason awards on Monday afternoon. A total of five Sharks were named to the All-SSC teams, with two student-athletes earning first-team recognition.
Daniel Irisarri and Adan Fernandez were the NSU representatives on the First-Team, while Duncan Pastore, Jeremy Cook and Michael Dillon were selected to the Second-Team.
Irisarri earns his first All-SSC honor of his Shark career, as the third-baseman ended the 2022 season leading NSU in batting average (0.322) in Sunshine State Conference action and went a perfect 13/13 in stolen base attempts. In total, Irisarri hit 0.346 on the campaign, finishing second on the club in hits (62), while driving in 39.
Fernandez repeats as an All-Sunshine State Conference First-Team honoree, leading the Sharks in home runs (10) for the third consecutive season. Fernandez hit 0.310 on the season, driving in 42 and totaling 11 doubles. In SSC action, Fernandez batting 0.299, recording six home runs, 21 runs batted in.
Pastore opened the 2022 season by being recognized as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Player of the Week and used the early hot streak to fuel a solid comeback season. Pastore closed the regular season with the team lead in batting average (0.360), hits (63), RBIs (55), while swiping 14 bags on the bases.
Cook anchored the Nova Southeastern pitching staff throughout the season, making a team-high 14 starts on the 2022 campaign. The south-paw registered a perfect 4-0 record in Sunshine State Conference play, pitching to a 3.88 earned run average, striking out 52 in 55.2 innings pitched. Cook made five consecutive quality starts in league play from April 3 to April 30, finishing the month with an ERA of 3.51.
Dillon was the definition of shutdown reliever for the Sharks, making an immediate impact as the closer for Nova Southeastern in his first season. On the campaign, Dillon finished the season with a stellar 1.57 ERA, earning 14 saves, while pitching 23 innings and striking out 19. Dillon has been pitching his best as the postseason approached, having thrown a combined nine shutout innings in his last seven appearances.
