#23 Sharks Sweep Bears in Home Opener

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 23rd ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks Volleyball team improved to 5-0 on the 2022 season with a three-set sweep over the Shaw Bears on Friday evening from the Rick Case Arena in the third game of the 14th annual NSU Shark Invitational, presented by Courtyard Marriot and Sheraton Suites (Plantation).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the match opened with NSU trailing 7-6, Taylor Stockman recorded a pair of kills to lead a 5-0 run for the Sharks. However, the Bears followed with six unanswered points, taking a 13-11 lead over Nova Southeastern.
  • Back-to-back service aces from Aleyna Kennel put the score at 16-16.
  • The Sharks took advantage of three consecutive errors by Shaw to take the first set, 25-22.
  • Nova Southeastern jumped out to an early advantage in the second set, capitalizing off three errors by the Bears and a Jordan Chessar service ace, to lead 6-2.
  • Stockman led a 5-0 rally for NSU, recording three kills, putting NSU in front 14-8.
  • Kate Mihacevich recorded the final three Shark points in the second set, as the Sharks moved to a 2-0 match lead, with a 25-17 second set win.
  • Chessar, Preslee Brooksbank, and Elizabeth Price each recorded points to put the Sharks ahead 3-0 in the early moments of the third set.
  • A kill from Olivia Aniol gave the Sharks a 10-4 lead over the Bears.
  • The Bears came roaring back, recording eight straight points, before a Mihacevich kill and a Grace Green service ace tied the set at 12-12.
  • Nova Southeastern scored 5-of-6 points, taking a 17-14 lead in the final set.
  • With the set tied 20-20, Mihacevich, Green, and Chessar each tallied points, putting NSU ahead 23-20.
  • Nova Southeastern finished the win, the Sharks third sweep of the season, with a 25-21 third set victory.
STATS OF THE NIGHT
Kate Mihacevich recorded a career-high 12 kills in the match, which led the Sharks.
Madison Cook made her season debut and recorded 36 assists.

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, September 3, with a pair of games in the Shark Tank. Nova Southeastern hosts Slippery Rock and American International in day two of the Shark Invitational, presented by Courtyard Marriot and Sheraton Suites (Plantation).
