FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Coming off a season in which the Sharks returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time under Head Coach Laz Gutierrez, Nova Southeastern Baseball looks to continue its momentum and have another successful season in 2023.
"I'm excited about our 2023 schedule. Aside from the most rigorous conference schedule in the nation, we're playing against several nationally ranked non-conference opponents," stated Gutierrez. "This not only prepares us for the postseason, but also, one of the reasons why we'd be able to compete in the playoffs."
Nova Southeastern returns to the diamond and hosts Lane for opening night on Friday, February 3, from the NSU Baseball Complex. That matchup is the first of three games during the opening weekend for the Sharks, as NSU also welcomes Colorado Christian (2/4) and Georgia Southwestern State (2/5). The following weekend, Nova Southeastern hosts Kentucky Wesleyan (2/9), Washburn (2/10), and Erskine (2/11).
Following the six-game season-opening homestand, the Sharks will travel to North Carolina to take on the 2021 NCAA Division II National Champions, Wingate in a four-game series from February 16-18. Nova Southeastern returns to Florida and begins Sunshine State Conference play with a three-game weekend series against Rollins beginning on February 23. The Sharks concluded their longest road trip of the season, eight games, with a neutral-site game against Tiffin (2/27).
NSU begins it's a nine-game home stretch with a three-game Sunshine State Conference series against Palm Beach Atlantic on March 3, before hosting St. Cloud State (3/9-11) and Davenport (3/15-17). The Sharks then will take on SSC rival, Tampa on the road beginning on March 24. Nova Southeastern travels south to play Barry in non-conference action on 3/28.
Nova Southeastern returns home and hosts Saint Leo in a three-game set from 3/31 - 4/1, before embarking on a brief four-game road trip, taking on Palm Beach Atlantic in non-conference action (4/4) and Embry-Riddle (4/6-7). The Sharks then host Florida Southern from April 14 – 16, in a three-game Sunshine State Conference series.
The final few weeks of the 2023 campaign for the Sharks features a three-game series against the Lynn Fighting Knights (4/21 - 23), a non-conference matchup against Palm Beach Atlantic (4/25), before the final three Sunshine State Conference series against Barry (4/28 - 29), at Eckerd (5/5 - 6), and closing the season against Florida Tech (5/12 - 13).
The NCAA Regional Tournament begins on May 18, with the NCAA Super Regional taking place from May 26 – 27. The Division II World Series in Cary, North Carolina, begins on June 3.
