Sharks to Showcase 2007 Squad at Annual Event for Professional Baseball Scouts

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (November 7, 2006) - The Nova Southeastern University baseball team will hold its annual Scout Day on Saturday, November 11, at the NSU Baseball Complex.

The 2007 Sharks will be given the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a host of professional baseball scouts during the day's events. The workout begins at 1:30 p.m. followed by an intrasquad scrimmage between members of the 2007 NSU baseball team.

Players will be evaluated by MLB scouts in several areas including pitching, hitting, fielding, throwing and running. Draft eligible players can be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft held in June of 2007.

Nova Southeastern has had a player chosen in each of the last three MLB Drafts, as NSU All-American pitcher Antony Bello was selected by the Houston Astros in the 21st round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Previous to that, Sharks All-American pitcher Derek Antelo was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft and pitcher Giuseppe Norrito was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 48th round of MLB's 2004 First-Year Player Draft.

Under the direction of Head Coach Michael Mominey, the NSU baseball team has sent 13 players to the professional ranks in the past six years. Since joining the NCAA Division II in 2002, the Sharks baseball teams has averaged over 30 wins per season and have been consistently ranked in the top-25 nationally. The baseball team has been consistently ranked in the top 10 in the South Region for the past five seasons, finishing as high as 5th in two of the five years of NCAA play. In 2006 the Sharks ranked as high as #13 nationally, posted a program-best 33-19 NCAA mark, and finished in third-place in the Sunshine State Conference with a 14-10 record in league play. The two teams that finished ahead of NSU in the standings were 2006 NCAA DII National Champions the University of Tampa and 2005 NCAA DII National Champions Florida Southern College.

The Sharks will open the 2007 regular season hosting a two-game series versus SSC rivals Barry University on Friday, February 2, at 6:00 PM and Saturday, February 3, at 6:00 PM.
