NSU Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Shaw, 67-61

Lady Bears go on 11-0 run in the final minutes to win close pre-Christmas contest

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (December 21, 2006) - Shaw reserve guard Carletta Harrell hit a three-pointer with 43 seconds left to give the Lady Bears (4-3) the lead for good as they defeated Nova Southeastern (2-7) by a score of 67-61 on Thursday night.

In the first half, the Sharks tallied six points as NSU held Shaw to 23 percent (6-26) shooting from the field, leading to a 30-21 NSU halftime lead. The Sharks closed out the half with an 11-2 run capped by a three pointer by point guard Ashley Wilson (Jr., Coral Springs, Fla.) and a pair of free throws made by swingman Amber Bishko (Jr., Orlando, Fla.)

To start the second half, Shaw went on a 9-2 run of their own. The Lady Bears improved on their first-half shooting percentage to shoot 54 percent in the second frame.

The game went back and forth, featuring eight lead changes until Harrell's late trifecta.

Overall, the Bears shot 40 percent from the field while NSU was held to 37 percent. The game featured 49 three-pointers attempted and only 15 made by both squads.

Shaw guard Na'Keisha Anthony led the way for the Lady Bears with 20 points while Harrell added 12 and guard Jan'el Baxter grabbed seven rebounds.

For NSU, Bishko led the charge, scoring 16 points and ripping down 10 boards for her second consecutive double-double. Reserve point guard Tia Evenson (Jr., Neodesha, Kan.) scored a season-high 14 points while swingman Eliza Allen (So., Hegenheim, France) scored six points to go with seven assists and seven rebounds.

NSU will be back in action on Friday, December 29 as they take on the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech on day one of the Barry Holiday Classic in Miami Shores, Fla. at 4pm. Fans will be able to listen to the game live on the NSU Athletics Audiocast Network.
