FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (January 27, 2007) - Tampa forward Alexa Kane scored 19 points while forward Eric Woodard added 14 points and 11 rebounds en route to a Spartan (13-6, 5-3) 62-50 victory over Nova Southeastern (6-13, 4-4) on Saturday night.
In the first half, Tampa jumped out to a 21-9 lead, capped by a Kane layup. NSU would cut the deficit to nine after a pair of free throws by forward Jennifer Havens (Sr., Ontario, Ore.) but the Spartans would extend their lead to 36-20 at the half.
In the first stanza, Tampa scored 16 points in the paint to two and led the points off turnover battle, 14-0.
In the second half, NSU improved it's shooting percentage with a 12-29 effort, good for 41.4 percent but Kane and the Spartans would prove too much to handle.
For the game, Tampa shot 49 percent from the field while NSU shot 33 percent.
For UT, center Sheena Walton added 13 points and seven rebounds while Amber Bishko (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) scored 14 for NSU.
Eliza Allen (So., Hegenheim, France) and Mechelle Jones (Sr., Rockledge, Fla.) added 11 and 10 points, respectively while Havens scored 10.
Havens' effort now puts her 67 points away from the 1,000 career point mark.
NSU will be back in action on Monday, January 29 as they travel to Miami Shores, Fla. to face SSC Rival Barry University at 7:30pm.
