NSU Women's Basketball Defeated by Rollins College, 51-33

After promising start, Sharks' cold shooting leads to Tars' victory

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 6, 2007) - The Rollins Tars (10-3, 2-0 SSC) outrebounded the Nova Southeastern Sharks (3-10, 2-1 SSC), 53-23, en route to a 51-33 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Early on, NSU made things difficult for the Tars, holding them without a point for the first three minutes and seven seconds of the game. In that span, Rollins missed just two shots but turned the ball over four times. As would be the case throughout the game, however, NSU struggled from the field in that span, missing all four of their field goals. The Sharks' first made basket did not come until 14:32 remaining when a reverse layup along the baseline by point guard Ashley Wilson (Jr., Coral Springs, Fla.) made it a one-point game with Rollins up 5-4.

Over the rest of the opening frame, Rollins went on a 19-8 run, capped off by a three-point by Tars' forward Larissa McDonough.

The Sharks shot 15 percent from the field in the first half and shot 25 percent for the game while Rollins won the game despite committing 26 turnovers, going 8-25 from the field in the second half and 18-51 for the game, equaling 35 percent.

For the game, McDonough achieved a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, nine of those coming on the offensive glass. Tars' forward Jennifer Catti added 10 points. For the Sharks, Wilson led the team with 11 points.

NSU will be back in action on Wednesday, January 10 as they host their rivals to the south, the Barry Buccaneers at 5:30pm in the University Center Arena.
