NSU Women's Basketball Ends Season With SSC Quarterfinal Loss to Tampa

Senior Forward Jennifer Havens Sets Conference Single-Season Free Throw Percentage Record

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 1, 2007) - Tampa guard DeShaydia Mackey scored 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field as the third-seeded Tampa Spartans (21-7) defeated the sixth-seeded Nova Southeastern Sharks (9-19) by a final score of 64-38 in Sunshine State Conference Tournament Quarterfinal action on Thursday afternoon.

The game was close early on as NSU led 15-13 with 10:43 left in the first half after a putback by center Fabienne Bain (Quebec, Canada).

Tampa would take the lead for good, however, going on a 25-7 scoring run to end the half up by 18.

In the first frame, Mackey had 16 points while Sharks' guards Mechelle Jones (Sr., Rockledge, Fla.) and Ashley Wilson (Jr., Coral Springs, Fla.) scored eight and seven points, respectively.

The second half didn't see much offense, either as both teams combined for 44 points. Tampa shot 30 percent from the field while NSU only shot 18.8 percent from the field.

Wilson finished 16 points and eight boards while Jones finished with 11 points.

The game was the last in the four-year careers of Jones and forward Jennifer Havens (Ontario, Ore.) who finished the season with a .878 free throw percentage on the year, breaking the SSC single-season record previously set by Rollins' Jill Razor in 1999-2000.
