Women's Basketball Sharks and Bears Battle It Out On Thursday at 2 p.m.

Women’s Basketball Set To Face Shaw In Midday Showdown

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (6-3) looks to turn things around as they host Shaw University on Thursday at 2 p.m. after dropping its last two games.

The Sharks have struggled to stop offensive powers No. 14 Rollins (87-61) and No. 13 Franklin Pierce (85-64) as they suffered losses by more than 20+ points. Despite the back-to-back losses, the Sharks still hold a 4.9 margin of victory over their opponents.

Senior center Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) continues to lead the Sharks averaging 16.9 ppg and 7.9 rpg. Senior point guard Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio), who is one of a national leader in assists per game, is averaging 5.9.

In its last game against Franklin Pierce, both post players, Sarosi and freshman Jasmine Wilkins (Miami, Fla.), scored double-digit points with 20 and 14, respectively. The 14 for Wilkins was a game-high in her young career.

About Shaw
The Bears, who are 6-3 on the year, started the season 4-1 but have split its last four games.

Aslea Williams was the games leader in points scored with 17 and rebounds with 12 in an 81-65 loss to Lander University on Dec. 18th. Five Lady Bears scored in double figures as Shaw dominated New Haven for a 92-42 win at the UDC Holiday Classic the following day. Kyria Buford has been the teams’ staple on offense, throwing down 17.4 points per game and hitting over 40 percent from behind the arc.

The Bears are averaging 67.4 points per game and hitting 37 (188-508) percent from the field, just higher than its opponents by a slim margin.

The Series vs. Shaw
The matchup, which will be at the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center, will mark the sixth meeting between the teams. The Bears will look to even the series as the Sharks hold a 3-2 advantage. The Sharks defeated Shaw in its last meeting on Dec. 30, 2008, as NSU mounted a 15-point win against the Bears.
