Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Mar. 2, 2010) Led by a strong pitching effort from junior Torey Ekey, the Nova Southeastern University baseball defeated Saint Rose 3-2 in action at the NSU Baseball Complex on Tuesday evening. The win improves the Sharks record to 8-9 on the season while Saint Rose falls to 1-4.
Ekey pitched five and two-third innings, allowing one unearned run on six hits while striking out four. He earned his first victory (1-0)in a NSU uniform.
Junior James Martinez (Hollywood, Fla.), sophomore Jovahny Castaneda (Miami, Fla.) and junior Sean Albury (Nassau, Bahamas) combined to allow just one unearned run on two hits in three and one-third innings pitched. Albury was credited with his second save.
The Sharks were led by junior shortstop Luis Penate (Miami, Fla.) at the plate, as he went 2-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Senior third baseman Rhys Roberts (Parkland, Fla.) and sophomore designated hitter Jonathan Escarza (Miami, Fla.) also had two hits apiece.
The Sharks host St. Thomas University at 6 pm on Wednesday, March 3rd at the NSU Baseball Complex.
