ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Suffering only its fourth loss of the season, the Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (10-4, 3-2 SSC) dropped a road game to the Eckerd College Tritons (10-5, 4-2 SSC), 74-68, on Saturday afternoon in the McArthur Center.
The Tritons success came from behind the arc as they hit 14 three’s to the Sharks’ eight.
The Sharks outscored Eckerd in the second half 46-34 but it was not enough as NSU headed into the locker room down in the first half, 40-22.
Senior
Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) paced the Sharks scoring 18 points, 12 coming in the second half. Senior
Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior
Quinessa Johnson (West Chester, Ohio) both added 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The duo of Kati Rausberg and Ashley Lutz led the Tritons as they scored 23 and 19 points, respectively, and hit a combined nine 3-pointers.
The Sharks struggled to find the bottom of the net as they hit 8-for-30 for 27 percent in the first half.
To begin the second half, the Sharks went on a 13-5 and pulled within 10 on a
Jada Buckner (Jr., Loudon, Tenn.) layup.
NSU hit 57 percent (15-for-26) in the second half but could not stop the Eckerd offense as they hit 50 percent from the field. In the closing seconds of the game, the Sharks trimmed the Triton lead to single digits but the clock ran to zero before the team could complete the full comeback.
The Sharks have lost three of its four games on the road this season and will tackle Lynn on Wednesday, Jan. 19th at 5:30 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
