Women’s Basketball Looks To Knock Down SSC Top-Seed Florida Southern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.As the year progresses, the season for the Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (10-6, 3-4 SSC) does not lighten as the Sharks will travel to Lakeland, Fla. on Wednesday, Jan. 26 for a matchup with the Sunshine State Conference top-seed Florida Southern Moccasins (13-3, 6-1 SSC). Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
 
The Sharks, who haven’t won a road game in conference play, are also on a three-game losing skid.
 
NSU had a 12-point lead on the No. 24 Tampa Spartans at the half, but allowed 57 second half Spartan points and fell 79-64 on Saturday, Jan. 22 in the NSU Arena at the Don Taft University Center.

Seniors Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) and Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio) both scored 17 points in the loss to Tampa.

Sarosi sits second in the conference in scoring (16.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg) while grabbing the number one spot in blocks per game with 2.6.
 
Tepe is currently ranked 26th in the SSC in scoring, averaging 9.3 ppg. The Sharks’ point guard is second in steals averaging 3.0 a game while also tying Florida Southern’s Megan Dzikas in assists with 5.5 apg.
 
About Florida Southern
The Mocs recently suffered their first conference loss to the Rollins College Tars, 85-63, on Saturday, Jan. 22. FSC has four players averaging double-figures in points, led by Emma Cannon with 14.6 ppg. Cannon is the top-SSC rebounder bringing down 10.5 rpg.
 
Their scoring offense and three pointers made per game also tops the conference with 78.3 and 8.9, respectively.
 
Florida Southern has been outscoring its opponents by a +14.6 margin but allows its opponents to score nearly 64 points a game.
 
The Series vs. Florida Southern
This will be the 22nd meeting between the two teams. The Sharks have the slight 11-10 advantage over FSC. The Sharks dropped both meetings last season. The first game at the NSU Arena, NSU fell to the Mocs, 99-93, in an overtime thriller. Not completely recovering from the first loss, the Sharks could not avoid the sweep as Florida Southern rolled past NSU, 75-59.
 
Sarosi has averaged 22.8 points and 9.4 rebounds in five games against FSC.
