Women's Basketball Sharks Seeks to Give Saint Leo Its Second Loss by NSU This Season

Women’s Basketball Looks To Stomp Lions On Saturday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University women’s basketball team (11-8, 3-6 SSC) will hit the road to face the Saint Leo Lions (9-12, 1-9 SSC) on Saturday, Feb. 5. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at the Maron Bowman Athletics Center.

In their last game, the Sharks gaffed the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish, 82-57, on Wed., Feb. 2 to put a halt to a five-game losing skid.

Senior Stephanie Sarosi (Mims, Fla.) broke the NSU career record for most field goals made after shooting a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor with 615 after Jessica Pate (2004-07) recorded 613 in her four years as a Shark. Also, Sarosi is seven points away from the 1,500 mark.
Senior Abbie Tepe (Cincinnati, Ohio), who is already the career NSU leader in assists, is one shy of 500 for her career. She also sits in the top-spot in the SSC with 6.1 assists per game.
 
NSU shot a season best 53.3 percent from the floor. Another Freshman Jasmine Wilkins (Miami, Fla.) returned back to the starting lineup and added 10 points and four rebounds.

About Saint Leo
In a conference game on Wednesday, the Saint Leo Lions fell to Lynn, 61-53. Freshman Chelsea Williams paced the team with a career-best 19, while Lauren Lee bucketed 12 points and led all players with nine rebounds. Brittany Carannante chipped in with eight points and three steals, in addition to Jamarra Robinson’s five assists.
 
On the season, Carannante is 13th in the conference with 12.1 points per game. Lee and Williams follow right behind with 12.0 and 11.5 ppg, respectively.
 
In conference games, the Lions are the toughest defenders when it comes to three-point shots. They hold SSC opponents to a .269 three-point percentage.
 
Offensively, the Lions are sitting last in the SSC only averaging 58.0 points per game.

The Series vs. Saint Leo
NSU holds a 17-4 edge against Saint Leo and has already stolen a victory from the Lions this season, 72-71. In their last matchup, Tepe opened the game with her 100th three in the 100th game of her career.

Sarosi recorded one of her best offensive performances of the year with 25 points. The Sharks also got one of her best on the defensive end as well as she blocked seven Lion shots, six coming in the first half.

Carannante paced the Lions as she dropped 23 on the Sharks, including a perfect 7-for-7 from downtown. The Sharks shot 41.8 percent (23-for-55) from the field while the Lions only hit 31.8 (28-for-88).

Standings of SSC
Florida Tech took over the No. 1 spot with an 8-2 SSC record after defeating Florida Southern, 75-68, on Wednesday.  Florida Southern follows in second with a 7-2 mark. Rollins and Tampa both have 7-3 records for third and fourth, respectively. Eckerd (5-5) and Lynn (4-6) are in the middle of the pack and NSU (3-6), Barry (2-8) and Saint Leo (1-9) round out the standings.
