HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- The Nova Southeastern University women’s and men’s track and field teams finished third and fourth respectively at the 2011 NCAA Division II South Regional meet hosted by Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday. The Shark men earned 86 total points for their fourth-place finish, while the women tallied 137 for third. Harding won both earning 218 points on the men’s side and 220 on the women’s.
Both NSU teams strung together four event wins in the meet.
Carlyle Thompson (Sr., Nassau, Bahamas) and
Keisha Etienne (Sr., North Miami, Fla.) won their respective 400 meter hurdle events, while the women’s team paired two wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays.
Individually, Thompson posted a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 52.42 in the 400m hurdles and Etienne won with a time of 1:01.38.
Jessica Osteen (So., Las Vegas, Nev.) finished a close second in the same event at 1:03.58 for the women.
Tiffany Richardson (So., Ocala, Fla.), Etienne,
Victoria Tudor (Fr., Fords, N.J.) and
Jasmine Wheeler (Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) teamed up for the win in the women’s 4x400 relay earning the top time of 3:55.60. Wheeler went on to join
Roberta Fisher (Jr., Orlando, Fla.),
Thelmarcia Williams (Jr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) and
Rashida Allen (Sr., Montego Bay, Jamaica) in the women’s 4x100 relay and ran the fourth leg of the winning quartet that finished with at time of 46.11 to provisionally qualify for NCAA nationals.
Although Allen and Osteen finished second and third in the 400 meter dash, they topped off a solid sprint with a pair of NCAA provisional qualifying times. Allen’s second place came in at 55.72, while Osteen finished with a time of 56.16. Allen also finished second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.17. On the men’s side, NSU also posted solid results in the 400m dash with
Robert Moise (Jr., Plantation, Fla.) finishing second at 49.04 and
Jurell Henry (Fr., Hampton, Va.) finished fourth at 49.32.
The men’s team had a solid day in the field events posting five top-five finishes.
Derrick Wood (Fr., Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) led the Sharks with a third-place finish in the high jump (1.95 meters), third-place in the triple jump (13.26 meters) and a fourth-place finish in the long jump (6.34 meters).
Tyler Hisamoto (Fr., Land O’Lakes, Fla.) finished second in the hammer throw at 43.15 meters, while
Ian Towne (Fr., South Walton, Minn.) posted a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (3.95 meters).
Like Wood, Williams paced the women’s field events with a pair of top-five finishes. She finished third in both the long jump (5.42 meters) and the triple jump (11.08 meters).
Brittany White (Fr., Bangor, Pa.) posted a third-place finish in the pole vault (2.29), while
Kristina Labossierre (Jr., Sunrise, Fla.) finished fourth in the shot put at 10.49 meters.
In the distance events,
Agustin Rey (Sr., Coral Springs, Fla.) posted a third-place finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:02.13, while
John Besharat (Sr., Miami, Fla.) finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run at 37:06.70. On the women’s side,
Peri Bowman (Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) ran a time of 19:34.14 to finish second in the women’s 5,000 meter run, while
Alexandria Palm (Fr., Winnebago, Ill.) finished third in the women’s 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:17.50.
The NSU track and field teams will return to action at the Drake Relays hosted by the University of Iowa April 28-30 in Des Moines, Iowa.
