FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women’s soccer team (6-1-1, 0-0-1 SSC) overcame a 90-minute lightning delay and rain throughout the first period to defeat Texas A&M University International (1-6-0, 0-1-0 HC), 4-0. The shutout is the third of the season for the Sharks.
Three different players scored for the Sharks, beginning with
Sierra Lelii's (Fr., Seminole, Fla.) high flying goal off of a right to left cross by
Rachael Reid (Sr., Plainfield, Ind.) 10 minutes into the match. The goal was Lelii’s third of the season and by the end of the game Reid’s assist total for the season would reach a team high five.
Reid would be credited with another assist less than three minutes later when Malin Broberg found the net after receiving a cross from her right.
Shanoska Young (Sr., Kingston, Jamaica) would also be credited with an assist on the play.
Young would score the next two goals for the Sharks, scoring at 47:31 and 77:43. The goals bring her season total to six, tied with Broberg for the team high in goals scored.
The Sharks tallied five assists in the game bringing its season total to 34, on 32 of its goals. The total goals scored in the game by the Sharks are in line with the Sharks goals per game average of four.
The win was credited to
Michelle Fuerst (Jr., Armonk, N.Y.) (2-1-1), she collected two saves, and did not allow a goal in 72:31 minutes.
Carolina Garcia (Fr., Miami, Fla.) made her second appearance in goal for the Sharks this season, making a save in 17:39 minutes.
Noemi Salazar was credited with the loss for the Dustdevils, she made a save and allowed four goals in 90 minutes in goal.
Both teams were equally physical with each other totaling 13 fouls a piece and the Sharks outshot the Dustdevils 14 to eight.
The Sharks dive back into conference play at Barry, Wed., Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
