FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. –
The Nova Southeastern swimming and diving teams will compete in the school’s first athletic event of 2012 when the Sharks take on Grand Valley State Monday, Jan. 2 at the NSU Aquatic Center. The meet has been moved to 2 p.m.

Before the holiday break, NSU hosted the second annual Shark Invitational at home and outperformed a handful of national contenders. Both the No. 13 men’s team and the No. 11 women’s team claimed second place among six teams.

Individually, Erin Black (Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.) and Jonas Grundstrom (Sr., Fagersta, Sweden) both took home the Michael D. Fish Outstanding Performer awards. Black finished the meet with a total of 103 points while Grundstrom finished with 101 points. Each swimmer had to clinch the award with victories on the last day, as Ashley Bransford (So., Santa Cruz, Aruba) and Oskar Nordstrand (Jr., Stockholm, Sweden) were both within single-digits of them.

Both the men and women enter Monday’s meet undefeated in dual meets against Division II teams. The Sharks will have to have a strong day in order to maintain that status as Grand Valley State enters the meet ranked fourth in the nation for both the men’s and women’s teams. The Lakers are coming off a first-place finish at the Calvin Winter Invitational, a meet in which the team set three NCAA A-cut times.

The Lakers are familiar with athletic success as the school is on pace to secure its ninth-straight Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The Learfield Cup is an award given to the athletic department with the best all-around athletic success. Last year, the Sharks finished a program-best 22nd in the cup standings.

Fans that are unable to make it to the NSU Aquatic Center can follow the meet via live video provided by NSUSharks.com HERE. Complete results will be posted after the completion of the meet.
