FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. The Nova Southeastern women’s basketball team (12-9, 5-7 SSC) returns home after two road contests to take on the Tampa Spartans (9-13, 2-10 SSC) Saturday. The action will begin at 2 p.m. at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center.

The Sharks split their two road games this week. NSU knocked off its third ranked opponent of the 2012 season, topping then No. 18 Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla., 62-58. The Sharks were unable to start a winning streak though, falling at Florida Tech, 60-51.

Meixandra Porter (Jr., Chantilly, Va.) led the Sharks in scoring in both games, dropping 16 in the win over the Mocs and then matching Richelle Carach (So., Naples, Fla.) with at team-high 13 at Florida Tech. Porter is now in the top-10 in all-time 3-pointers made with 35 in only one season at NSU. Fellow newcomer Danielle Robinson is two spots ahead of her with 45 made treys, while senior Jada Buckner (Loudon, Tenn.) is fifth with 66 from long range.

The Spartans have lost four of their last five, including their three most recent contests. This week, Tampa fell to Barry Feb. 4 at home 60-46, before falling on the road to Saint Leo, giving the Lions their first SSC win this season.

Jaleesa Harmon paces the Spartans with 13.5 points per game. Moriah Hodges, who leads the Spartans in rebounding at 6.5 rpg, is second in scoring at 12.4 ppg.

The last time the Sharks and Spartans met, NSU limited Tampa to 37 points on 13-of-45 shooting from the field. It was the second-lowest point total allowed by the Sharks this season. NSU dominated the boards, grabbing 48 rebounds to the Spartans 25. Carach and Quinessa Johnson (Sr., West Chester, Ohio) each snared 11 boards in the victory. The Sharks snapped a seven-game losing street to the Spartans with the victory Jan. 14.
