Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team completed their sweep of games at the weekend's Bellarmine Classic, defeating Ferris State on Sunday, 94-70.

Danielle Robinson (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led four scorers in double digits for the Sharks (4-0), scoring 16 of her 20 in the first half. Jessica Russi (Sr., Lake Mary, Fla.) was the team's representative on the All-Classic Team, filling up the stat sheet on Sunday: four points, seven rebounds, 12 assists (one shy of her school record), five steals and two blocks.

The Sharks and Bulldogs (0-2) played even throughout the first nine and half minutes, with NSU holding on to a 17-13 lead. They first went on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to make it 26-15, and after FSU scored to cut to nine, blitzed out with 20 of the next 26 points. The lead was ballooned to 46-21 with just over two minutes to go in the half.

As it was on Saturday, the opposition came out of the break with a short spurt, with the Bulldogs scoring the first four of the second. Quickly, the Sharks got five straight of their own, on a layup by Richelle Carach (Sr., Naples, Fla.) and a 3-pointer by Robinson. The Sharks would make six 3-pointers in each half on Sunday, led by four from Taylor Buie (So., Puyallup, Wash.) and three by Alexis Murphy (So., Carlisle, Ohio).

Buie followed up her career-high 22 on Saturday with 16 in Sunday's win. Murphy's 15 on Sunday was a new personal best, nearly double her previous high of eight. Carach added 11 on a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor (including a '3'), while Jasmine Wilkins (Sr., Miami) was also flawless, 4-of-4 with a 3-pointer for a total of nine points.

The closest FSU would get was 15, with 12:59 left. The Sharks scored the next six, capped by a lay-in from Julia Salmio (Sr., Vantaa, Finland). She tied for the team high with Russi with seven rebounds on the afternoon.

Murphy's last 3-pointer pushed the lead over 20 with 8:28 left. The Sharks kept ahead by at least that margin for the remainder of the game and by as many as 27 when Brittany Mesler (Fr., Wellsville, N.Y.) put in a short jumper with 42 seconds left.

The Sharks shot an even 50 percent for the game (30-of-60), 40 percent from behind the arc (12-of-30) and missed just one free throw, setting a new NSU game record for percentage at 95.7 (22-of-23). They had 12 steals and forced 19 FSU turnovers.

The squad will return home to Fort Lauderdale to host next weekend's NSU Thanksgiving Tourney. Their first matchup in the two-day event is this Friday, Nov. 29, against Pitt-Johnstown at 4 p.m.
