The final home series of the season will continue on Friday in a 12:00 doubleheader, with the second game tentatively scheduled for a 3:45 start.
The Sharks (27-19, 9-12 SSC) are coming off of a 2-1 series victory on the road against Rollins. Their 8-1 victory in the series' final game leapfrogged them past the Tars and into sixth place in the SSC.
Meanwhile, FIT (32-14, 14-7 SSC) has won six of their last seven games and currently sits second in the conference standings. They are also third in the latest NCAA South Regional rankings.
The Panthers feature two of the conference's top two pitchers in Dylan Reid and Jason Boyer. Reid, out of the bullpen, ranks second in the SSC in ERA (1.95) and first in opposing batting average against (.203), and has a 4-1 record. Boyer's 77 strikeouts is also second among conference pitchers, and his ERA of 2.75 ranks him seventh. Fellow starter Scotty Ward is just behind Boyer in eighth in ERA at 3.04, while James Mannara mans the back end of the FIT bullpen with a SSC-best 12 saves, which is fifth among all DII pitchers. The Panther offense is led by Scott Caracaise, who ties for the conference high with nine home runs and has a .555 slugging percentage (fifth in the SSC), and Austin Allen, who has a team-high .344 average.
Rodriguez continues to pace Shark hitters with a .370 batting average, tied for fourth in the conference. Teammate
Michael Melendez (So., Miramar, Fla.) would rank among the league leaders as well with his .361 clip, but he falls short of the league minimum number of at-bats required.
Carlos Asuaje (Jr., Weston, Fla.) still sits atop the SSC with 32 stolen bases, which ranks him 18th in the nation. Clements had 10 RBI during the Rollins series, pushing him into the team lead with 33, one ahead of
Brandon Sedell (So., Davie, Fla.) and two ahead of Rodriguez. Rodriguez, Melendez and Acevedo tie for the team lead with six home runs apiece.
