Box Score FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 4 Nova Southeastern women's basketball team was edged out at the NSU Arena on Saturday afternoon by No. 9 Tampa, 76-75.
The Sharks (5-2) and Spartans (6-1) played extremely even, with 13 lead changes and 11 ties. The score was tied for the last time at 72-72 on
Danielle Robinson's (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) two free throws with 1:42 to go.
The teams traded turnovers before Tampa took the lead for good with 1:06 left on a free throw by Kayla Jeremie. The Sharks had an empty possession, and UT's Juliana Cavallaro made one-of-two from the line as well to make it 74-72.
Tampa again made a stand, and again Cavallaro was sent to the line. This time she made them both to make it a two-possession game, 76-72, with eight seconds remaining.
Monaye Merritt (R-Jr., Philadelphia) hit a 3-pointer just before the final horn, but the Spartans escaped with the one-point victory.
Each team had four players in double digits, with the Sharks' combo of Robinson and Merritt combining for 37, at 19 and 18, respectively. Each guard made three 3-pointers as well.
Jasmine Wilkins (Sr., Miami) had 15 points in 14 minutes, on 7-of-11 shooting, while
Kayla Wright (So., Lauderhill, Fla.) went 6-of-8 from the field for 12 points.
Juliana Cavallaro had 17 to lead Tampa, all coming in the second half.
The Sharks are back in action on Monday, Dec. 15, hosting Shaw University at the NSU Arena. Tip time is 2 p.m.
