FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 11 Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team returns to the NSU Arena for the first time in 20 days when they host the Florida Southern Mocs on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Sharks (10-2, 2-1 SSC) are coming off back-to-back road SSC wins, over Eckerd, and most recently Lynn this past Wednesday. They trail three undefeated teams within conference play, including these Mocs (8-3, 2-0 SSC). FSC picked up their second league win in a row on Wednesday by beating Saint Leo by one, 81-80.
In the Sharks' 78-74 win over Lynn,
Jasmine Wilkins (R-Sr. Miami) notched the team's second straight double-double, with team highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Danielle Robinson (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was a board away from that distinction as well, with 16 points and nine rebounds, and she,
Monaye Merritt (R-Jr., Philadelphia) and
Kayla Wright (So., Lauderhill, Fla.) combined for 33 second-half points with 13, 10 and 10, respectively.
FSC escaped their road win Wednesday behind 14 points from Mariah Harris and a double-double of their own, courtesy of Christin Strawbridge (12 points and 13 rebounds). Their leading scorer on the year is newcomer Gianna Vastola, at 10.2 per game. Strawbridge is next at 9.4, and ranks fourth in the SSC in both rebounding (7.2) and field goal shooting (57.5%).
Besides that one-point victory, the Mocs also topped Barry at home, 70-67. Their other five wins are against out-of-conference foes in Georgia College, Flagler, Embry-Riddle, Palm Beach Atlantic, Young Harris and Molloy. They have already eclipsed win total of seven, under new head coach Betsy Harris.
