FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 10 Nova Southeastern University women's basketball team resumes play with a tight window of three home games over the final weekend of play in 2015, hosting Shaw and then their annual Shark Holiday Classic at the NSU Arena.

The Sharks (8-1, 4-0 SSC), designated 10th on Tuesday by both the coaches in the USA Today poll and by sports information directors in the D2SIDA media poll, have not played since a 65-55 win over Rollins on Dec. 5. The team broke for exams and practice in preparation for their first game back this Thursday, a 2 p.m. matinee against Shaw (7-2).

The Lady Bears have won seven of eight, the last coming on Tuesday night in their CIAA conference opener against Elizabeth City State, 64-46. They are led by 6-3 senior center Eboni Ross, a transfer from North Carolina A&T, averaging a double-double this year with 14.4 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. That latter mark is 10th in the country, and her field goal percentage of 63.9 percent is fifth nationally.

NSU leads the all-time series against Shaw 7-3 and have gone 3-1 in head coach LeAnn Freeland's tenure. The last two have each been played at the NSU Arena, with both going in the home team's favor: 103-85 in 2013-14, and 87-77 last season.

Following the Thursday game, the Sharks will bring in three teams for a two-day round-robin, the 2015 Shark Holiday Classic. NSU will play first each day, Saturday and Sunday, at 2 p.m., against two SIAC members in Miles (6-2) and Albany State (2-5). Fellow Sunshine State conference squad Barry will also take part, playing the opposite opponents at 4 p.m. both days.

Miles, the Lady Golden Bears, have won each of their last four, and have started out 2-0 in SIAC play with defeats of Clark Atlanta and Spring Hill. After the completion of this weekend, Albany State will have gone up against four consecutive SSC opponents. The Lady Rams have lost to Tampa 69-55 on Dec. 10, will play Eckerd on Thursday, and then tip off against Barry and NSU on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The Sharks have never played Miles, and will be taking on Albany State for the third consecutive year. In the NCAA South Region Tournament held at the NSU Arena in 2014-15, NSU prevailed 96-69, and last season in this same Shark Holiday Classic, it was a 56-47 decision that went the Sharks' way.
