FINAL RESULTS
LAKELAND, Fla. – The No. 1 Nova Southeastern University men's golf team picked right up where they left the fall season with their wire-to-wire win at the Matlock Collegiate Classic, setting a new program standard for score to par in the process on Tuesday afternoon.
NSU totaled a 26-under-par score of 838 (277-280-281), bettering their 25-under at the 2013 Buccaneer Invitational, and tying the Matlock Classic record set two years ago by Barry. They shot the best team score in all three rounds and defeated runner-up Barry by 10 strokes.
All five Sharks finished in the top 20.
Richard Mansell (So., Staffordshire, England) was top finisher, shooting under 70 in each round for a total of 206, 10-under-par (69-69-68). He was a stroke ahead of teammate
Santiago Gomez (Jr., Armenia. Colombia), who tied for third at 207 (67-70-70).
Freshman
Priyanshu Singh (Delhi, India) was also in the top 10, carding three under-par rounds and tying for eighth at 212 (71-70-71).
Oscar Lengdèn (Sr., Helsingborg, Sweden) and
Ethan Marcus (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) finished in the group tied for 20th, each shooting a 218. Lengdèn went 70-71-77, and Marcus wrapped up with two even-par rounds, going 74-72-72.
After the Sharks and Barry were Lynn (858), West Florida (859) and Florida Southern (861). Barry's Adam Svensson took medalist honors with a 12-under 204.
The men will have a week off of tournament play before returning to the links on Monday, Feb. 23. They will defend their team title in the Armstrong Pirate Invitational, held at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Georgia.
