FINAL RESULTS
POOLER, Ga. – The No. 1 Nova Southeastern University men's golf team successful defended their title at the Armstrong Pirate Invitational, and took their second straight tournament of the spring, shooting Tuesday's lowest team score at the Savannah Quarters Country Club and winning by nine strokes.
The Sharks trailed by one stroke after each of Monday's first two rounds, but their team total of 297 on Tuesday pushed them past Wingate and into first place. Three of the five members of the squad finished at 216, even-par, all placing in the group tying for third.
Santiago Gomez (Jr., Armenia, Colombia),
Richard Mansell (So., Staffordshire, England) and
Priyanshu Singh (Fr., Delhi, India) were among the five at that total, just a stroke behind the co-leaders, who finished in a playoff: Wingate's Benedict Gebhardt and Michal Pospisil of Lander (with Pospisil winning). Mansell had the lowest third round, a par 72, with Gomez and Singh each shooting a 74.
Wrapping up the Shark scores were
Ethan Marcus (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) at 222 and
Hunter O'Mahony (Jr., Jupiter, Fla.) with a 229. On the team board, behind NSU and Wingate, were Flagler (880), Saint Leo (885) and Lynn (886).
The Sharks look for three wins in a row (and four on the season) beginning Monday, March 9 at the St. Edward's Invitational in Austin, Texas.
