FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 1 Nova Southeastern University men's golf team seeks their third consecutive event win as they take part in the St. Edward's Invitational beginning Monday in Austin, Texas.
The two-day tournament, at the Onion Creek Country Club, is the third Shark competition of the spring, with the team having won both of the first two, both by nearly double digits. The opener was Florida Southern's Matlock Invitational, a 10-stroke win over runner-up Barry that saw the Sharks break an all-time team record for score to par. Then two weeks ago at Armstrong State's Pirate Invitational, the win was by nine strokes to come from behind and take the team title.
Richard Mansell (So., Staffordshire, England) and
Santiago Gomez (Jr., Armenia, Colombia) have been quite a 1-2 punch for the team, with Mansell finishing second in the opener and tied for third in the Pirate Invite, while Gomez has notched back-to-back third-place finishes. Freshman
Priyanshu Singh (Delhi, India) has been in the top 10 in both, slotting eighth and third, respectively.
Over both the fall and spring portions of the schedule, Gomez leads the way with a 71.0 stroke average, just ahead of Mansell's 71.3. Singh is at 72.9, followed by
Oscar Lengdèn (Sr., Helsingborg, Sweden) at 73.6 and
Ethan Marcus (Fr., Boca Raton, Fla.) at 73.7.
