No. 22 Sharks Head South to Battle Barry

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team will return to Sunshine State Conference play this Wednesday as it travels to Miami Shores, Fla. to take on the Buccaneers of Barry University. Tipoff for the game is slated for 5:30 p.m.

The Sharks (5-1, 2-0 SSC) continued their winning ways this past weekend, picking up two wins over regional opponent Valdosta State and Armstrong State. With the two wins, the Sharks have propelled to the top spot in the South Region while moving to No. 22 in the national WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 12 in the Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll.

Also as a result of this weekend's wins came Christen Prasse's first SSC Player of the Week award. The junior averaged 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in the two wins. In addition, Prasse shot a combined 65.2 percent from the field along the way, while committing just three turnovers in 71 total minutes of action.

As a team, NSU is ranked in the top five of most offensive categories, including first-place ranks in assists per game (17.7) and free-throw percentage (.750).  Individually, Prasse holds the No. 1 spot in the league for total assists (38) and assists per game (6.3) while ranked 14th and 19th nationally in those respective categories. Samantha Logan also holds the top spot in the conference in rebounds per game, pulling down on average 10.3.

The Buccaneers are 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference coming off a pair of losses, 68-60 to Florida Tech and 67-53 to Central Missouri this past weekend. Barry is led offensively by Lauren Seryranian, who is ranked fifth in the SSC with her 13.8 points per game average. Kiara Palmer and her 13.5 ppg and 7.0 rebounds per game are also a threat.

In their last meeting in 2015, the Bucs handed the Sharks their second of only three regular-season conference losses on the year, a 67-65 edge with just seconds to go in the game. Taylor Buie was NSU's top scorer, pouring in 18 points including four three-pointers.
