FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The NSU women's basketball team returns to home play on Saturday as they play host to the Fighting Knights of Lynn University. Tipoff between the Sharks and the Knights is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
NSU suffered its first conference loss this past weekend to the host Florida Tech Panthers, 57-46.
Cheray Saunders led the way for Sharks with 10 points while
Christen Prasse and
Samantha Logan contributed nine and eight points, respectively. Logan also recorded seven rebounds.
Megan Piggott and
Katie Barnard each scored seven points.
Despite the loss, Prasse and Logan continue to lead the Sharks and the SSC in multiple categories. Prasse's 6.1 assists per game and 49 total assists and Logan's 10.0 rebounds per game and 80 total rebounds put them at the top of the league. Prasse's 6.1 assist average ranks her 13
th nationally.
Lynn will enter the NSU Arena with a 4-3 overall record, 1-2 against Sunshine State Conference opponents. In their most recent outing, the Knights fell to the top-ranked team in the SSC, Eckerd College, 78-49. Brekia Henderson led the team with 14 points, and was the only Fighting Knight that scored in double figures. She also recorded three assists, a steal and a rebound to pad her stat sheet.
Overall, the Knights are led offensively by Paola Vazquez, who averages 13.1 points per game and Janay Williams who pulls down on average 6.1 rebounds per game.
The Sharks hold a 20-14 advantage in the overall series against the Fighting Knights. In their most recent meeting in the 2015 SSC Championship Quarterfinals, NSU earned an 80-74 comeback victory over Lynn to advance to the semifinals.
