Baseball Suffers Home Loss to Colorado Christian

Sharks continue to struggle at home, dropping fourth home game of the year.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern University baseball team (3-5) fell to the Colorado Christian Cougars (2-3) on a chilly Wednesday night at the NSU Baseball Complex, losing by a score of 7-4. NSU's Julian Loret de Mola (0-2) took his second loss of 2016, while CCU's Ryan Erazo (1-0) earned the win.

The Sharks fell into an early 3-0 hole, as the Cougars offense tagged NSU's Alexander Kline for three runs in the first two innings. NSU began to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the third inning, beginning with a Brandon Gomez leadoff single to right-centerfield. Daniel Zardon followed with a single to left, putting runners on first and second with nobody out for Antonio Rodriguez. The senior designated hitter proceeded to float a ball into the triangle between the Cougars' shortstop, third baseman and left field, scoring Gomez from second. Andrew Liberty then stepped into the batters box with runners on first and second and showed bunt before pulling back and smashing a ball off of the right field wall to score Zardon before Rodriguez was thrown out at the plate. Michael Hernandez followed with a double to right field that drove in Liberty, tying the game a 3-3.

The Cougars responded by scoring one run in each of the top of the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings to give themselves a 7-3 lead. The Sharks attempted to mount a comeback in the eighth inning, scoring one run on a RBI single from Kevin Suarez. It looked as if the NSU Baseball Complex had a little magic in it when the Sharks had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the ninth and Michael Hernandez at the plate but the comeback attempt fell short, as Hernandez and Andres Visbal struck out to end the game.

Four Sharks had two hits in the loss, as JanCarlos Cintron-Torres, Gomez, Zardon and Liberty took care of business at the plate. Dylan Woods increased his career-high hitting streak to eight games in the loss, hitting a double to left in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The Sharks will have the weekend off to prepare for St. Thomas on February 16th and Tuskegee on February 19th and 20th.
