No. 5 Men's Golf Preps for Last Regular Season Event

Sharks' squad and two seniors have final tourney before postseason play

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The No. 5 Nova Southeastern University men's golf team hits the links for the last time during this 2015-16 regular season, as the highest-ranked squad at the Buccaneer Invitational in Miami Beach.

The Sharks are among four top 10 programs competing in Barry's two-day event, Monday and Tuesday, at the par-71, 6,733-yard Normandy Shores Golf Club. Also in the 16-team field are No. 6 Lynn, the host No. 7 Bucs and No. 9 Central Missouri, as well as two others ranked in the coaches' top 25: No. 12 Flagler and No. 21 Central Oklahoma.

Filling out the rest of the field are Eastern Florida State, Eckerd, Embry-Riddle, Florida Tech, Johnson & Wales, Palm Beach Atlantic, St. Thomas Aquinas, Tampa, Valdosta State and Wilmington. Monday will feature 36 holes with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Last season, the Sharks scored a runner-up finish at this event, they were third the year prior, and were 2013 tournament champions. That win set the still-standing record for lowest end total and the Sharks' second round tied for the lowest round score. Also, Ben Taylor took medalist honors, the last of three consecutive wins by Shark individuals, following Jack Bartlett and Oscar Lengdèn.

The event will mark the end of regular season play not only for the team, but also for this year's senior class of Santiago Gomez (Armenia, Colombia) and Hunter O'Mahony (Jupiter, Fla.). Stay tuned for updates throughout the event.
