Sharks Hit SSC Halfway Point at Eckerd on Wednesday

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After a weekend off, the Nova Southeastern women's basketball team will head to St. Petersburg, Fla. on Wednesday evening to take on the No. 22 Eckerd Tritons in the McArthur Center. Wednesday's game serves as the halfway mark of the SSC schedule.

The Tritons currently hold a 12-4 overall record and are 8-1 against Sunshine State Conference matchups. The Sharks sit at 10-6 on the overall season and hold a 6-2 record in league play, putting them at fourth place in the SSC standings.

A week ago, NSU utilized its historically strong defense to grab a 62-48 win over Rollins College in the NSU Arena. Christen Prasse led the team with 14 points on 5-of-12 from the field and 2-of-4 from 3-point range, adding eight rebounds, three assists and steals and two blocks. Katie Barnard joined her in double-digit scoring with 11 points on a career-high seven free throws, while recording five rebounds and four steals.

The 48 points that the Sharks held Rollins to was well below their season average of 69.0 and matched their lowest output in a game this season, while their 26 turnovers forced are well above their average of 16.8 per game and marks their highest total all season.

Despite being held to just six points on Wednesday, Megan Piggott continues to lead the team with an average 12.6 points per game, also good enough for a Top-10 spot in the SSC. Prasse also holds a double-digit average with 11.4 and has a team and conference-leading 70 assists and 4.7 assist per game average. For the tenth straight week, Samantha Logan dominates the charts in rebounding, averaging a team and conference-high 9.6 per game.

After a setting a program record with 11 straight wins, the Triton's fell short Saturday night against Florida Southern, 74-61. With the win, the Mocs took the first-place spot in the SSC away from Eckerd. Victoria Vine led the way for the Tritons with 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting and Ada Yalcin added 17.

Eckerd leads the SSC in scoring, averaging 72.8 points per game, shooting 46.1 percent from the field as a team. Vine and Kacie Juday lead the team in scoring, putting up on average 14.8 and 12.8 points per game, respectively.
