FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team will kick off play in 2017 on the road, as it travels to Saint Leo, Fla. to take on the host Saint Leo Lions on Wednesday evening. The Sunshine State Conference matchup is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
The Sharks (8-5, 4-1 SSC) dropped their last game against SSC-provisional member Embry-Riddle by a score of 57-53.
Christen Prasse led the team with 14 points, while
Megan Piggott scored 11, her fifth straight game in double digits.
Cheray Saunders collected six steals to match the team's single-game high this season, previously set by Prasse against Concordia-Portland.
Prasse continues to lead the Sharks, averaging 12.3 points per game while grabbing 5.4 rebounds. Piggott joins her in the double-digits, putting up 11.8 points on average.
Samantha Logan also is still the Sharks' leading rebounder, pulling down on average 9.5 boards a game. Her average also puts her at the top of the SSC, just above Saint Leo's (5-6, 0-4 SSC) Chelsy Springs, who sits at No. 2 with 9.0 rebounds-per-game.
Senior forward Springs is SLU's biggest offensive threat, averaging 16.8 points per game on 48.7-percent shooting. She has four 20-plus point games, including the last three outings. She also leads the team with three double-doubles so far this season. Her 16.8 points-per-game lead the SSC.
In its most recent time out, Saint Leo fell to Palm Beach Atlantic, 86-80, in overtime action at home on Friday evening. Springs led the Lions with 21 points, adding a career-high 17 rebounds while Gabby Ortiz scored a career-high 13 points. Gina Brierley dished out a career-high six assists.
