Sharks Set to Kick Off 2017-18 Season

NSU will open up Friday evening at the GSC/SSC Crossover Challenge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball 2017-18 season is set to tip off tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 10, at the GSC/SSC Crossover Classic hosted by Union University in Jackson, Tenn. Along with NSU, four teams in total will be competing at the Fred DeLay Gymnasium, including Delta State, Barry, and the host Bulldogs. NSU will face off against Delta State on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. (EST) before taking on host Union on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. (EST).

Delta State was recently picked to finish seventh in the 2017-18 Gulf South Conference Preseason Poll. The Lady Statesmen, who finished 14-14 last season, return five players from last year's squad, including junior guard Alondrea Rush who led the team in points (13.0), assists (3.0) and steals (2.14). DSU also returns key defender Tori Mallory, who helped the Lady Statesmen lead the GSC in defense (57.1 ppg) last season.

Union finished up last season in the GSC quarterfinals with a final overall record of 17-12. The Bulldogs were selected to finish fourth in the 2017-18 GSC Preseason Poll. Union has two returning starters, Jada Smith and Jada Perkins, who were both second and third ranked on the team in scoring last season, respectively. The Bulldogs will also look for a boost from returner Tiara Caldwell, a 2015-16 First Team All-GSC selection who did not play in 2016-17. Caldwell averaged 15.1 points per game in her last season.
