FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern women's basketball team will have the opportunity to even the series against the No. 24 Eckerd College on their home court this upcoming Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Rick Case Arena.
The two teams met in the middle of January in St. Petersburg, and the Sharks (14-9, 10-5 SSC) battled hard to erase a 21-point deficit to the Tritons (19-4, 12-2 SSC) in the final frame, cutting the host team to 12 points, but came up short, 64-52.
Maria Bardeeva was the only Shark to reach double digits in scoring, tallying 11 points while adding four rebounds.
Katie Barnard and
Samantha Logan each posted eight points while Barnard contributed two assists and Logan had a team-high five rebounds, shared with
Amanda Tivenius.
For Eckerd, the team's leading scorer, Victoria Vine, finished the night with 22 points and four rebounds while Ashley Folsom posted 15 points and four steals. Kacie Juday earned her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Vine continues to hold the role of Eckerd's highest scorer, tallying 13.7 points per game, good enough for the No. 5 spot in the conference. Juday and Folsom join her in double-digits with 12.9 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. Juday also ranks in the Top 10 of the league in rebounding, averaging 7.0 boards a game.
As a team, the Tritons lead the conference in scoring, averaging 70.6 points a game and are second in the league from the field, shooting 47.7 percent.
